Miyoko Ito

yPre-Echo Press (New York) is readying the first book-length project dedicated to the life and work of Japanese-American painter Miyoko Ito (1918–1983). While Ito’s paintings have recently been the subject of critically acclaimed solo exhibitions at museums, non-profits, and commercial galleries, there is no publication dedicated to her unique and path-breaking practice. Working closely with curator and writer Jordan Stein (organizer of Ito’s recent and Artists Space and  Berkeley Art Museum presentations), the book will feature the largest collection of full-color plates ever assembled from the artist’s mature period, reproductions of archival material, and an essay by Stein. The project presently seeks financial support to locate as many hard-to-find artworks as possible (in Chicago and beyond), capture them in high resolution, support permissions, and provide contributor stipends. Pre-Echo is working toward a fall/winter 2023 publication date.

This project is seeking donors at three levels: Angel, Leader, and Friend.

ANGEL

Pre-Echo hopes to secure donations of 10,000 USD from a small group of angel contributors. These supporters will be acknowledged in the publication and receive ten free copies.

LEADER & SPONSORS

Pre-Echo hopes to secure donations of 2,500 to 5,000 USD from a small group of leaders and sponsors. These supporters will be acknowledged in the publication and receive five free copies.

FRIENDS & PATRONS

Pre-Echo hopes to secure donations between 100 and 250 USD or more from a circle of friends. These supporters will be acknowledged in the publication and receive one free copy.

Pre–Echo Press was started in 2016 by New York based visual artist Matt Connors as a platform for disseminating a diverse and idiosyncratic array of recorded and printed matter.
